Educator.

Growing up in Chicago, my training at Gus Giordano Dance School instilled in me the values of legacy, mentorship, and joy in dance education. These experiences deeply shaped my commitment to embedding history in my teaching and passing of knowledge to the next generation. As an educator, I strive to honor this legacy by fostering a sense of happiness and curiosity in my students, drawing from the rich lineage of dance, especially that of jazz dance from the African Diaspora.

Educational Philosophy

Core Beliefs

Dance education holds an immense potential to catalyze positive change, both within individuals and communities. Through the act of movement, we gain profound insights into ourselves and the world around us. I firmly believe that by promoting greater movement and community engagement, dance education has the power to transform lives and contribute to a better society.

Teaching Approach

My teaching methods are rooted in the belief that every student deserves to feel capable, valued, and unique. I create nurturing spaces that encourage individual exploration and growth, whether in the classroom, studio, or on stage. Witnessing my students experience "lightbulb" moments is the most rewarding experience as an educator.   I guide them on their journey of self-discovery through movement.

Inclusivity & Accessibility

I am deeply committed to ensuring that dance education is inclusive and accessible to all. My early experiences with outreach programs within Chicago Public Schools reinforced the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to dance. I actively strive to create environments that welcome students of all identities, abilities, and experience level.  I make intentional choices in my teaching to promote diversity and inclusivity.

Educational Goals

In every class I teach, my three main goals for students are to fall in love with the movement they perform, find fulfillment in their practice, and create meaningful connections with their communities. I integrate embodied dance history into guided instruction to ensure that each student has an opportunity to engage in material that interests them.

Specialization in American Jazz Dance

My passion encompasses all dance styles, however, American Jazz Dance holds a special place in my heart. Its timeless principles remind me that jazz dance is a living art form, evolving with the times while staying rooted in its classic method. I take a similar approach into my classes holding a willingness to try new things, adapt, and evolve as an educator to ensure that my teaching remains relevant and impactful.
